10AM-3PM Intro to Japanese Sashiko Stitching @ The Quilt Museum

This one-day class will walk you through the history and culture of Sashiko and how Boro stitching compares. Then you will learn the tools of the Sashiko, materials and threads, as well as the unique type of thimble used. Preparing the fabric, drawing the traditional geometric patterns and preparing to stitch will also be part of the process - and then the actual stitching!  The techniques used by the masters are a bit different than those often taught - by books - so learning from a master will be amazing.

The special type of thimble can be purchased - but many masters use homemade thimbles instead - so making your own thimble will be part of this class as well.
