In the words of one critic, as she combined “the sheer emotional force of the great blues singers with a sheer, wallpaper-peeling power that seemed made to order for the age of amplification”. Her over 60 years of music, initially with her partner Ike Turner and then solo, showcased her vocal prowess, swagger, and energetic sensuality.
