New Year's Eve of 1931 was profitable for Jefferson County. Prohibition was still in effect. That didn’t stop people from possessing and drinking alcohol, but it meant that they could be assessed steep fines when caught.

Lakeside Amusement Park (originally called the White City)

Lakeside Amusement Park was hosting a walkathon, and law enforcement gathered “a large haul” there. Many others were arrested at dance halls throughout the county.

Ben Rosenberger is said to have become hilarious at Rock Rest and taken a swing at Undersheriff Vernon Downing. He paid $50 and costs on a disturbance charge.
