A Treat for Insomniacs and Early Risers: A Blood Moon

A blood moon in 2022 - Photo by Alan Pinkus - Click to enlarge

If you're up very early (today–Tuesday morning) and the sky is clear, you might see a "blood moon." NASA explains that a blood moon happens during a lunar eclipse (that is, the earth is between the sun and the moon).

While you might imagine a full lunar eclipse would leave the Moon completely dark, Earth's atmosphere scatters the light, illuminating the Moon in this orange-reddish hue.

According to TIMEANDDATE.COM, it will start at 1:44AM, be at its maximum at 4:33AM, and finish at 6:33AM. (The moon also sets at 6:33, so check it out as it heads down behind the mountains.)
