The winners of the Center for Railroad Photography & Art’s 2025 John E. Gruber Creative Photography Contest have been announced, and these award-winning images are now on display at the Museum.

Fragile Things by by Sarah Tenney & Jenna Annunziato

Through cut-out paintings, Tenney and Annunziato reflect on memory, connection, and the fragility of objects and relationships. Their works
balance nostalgia, allegory, and magical realism.

Clear Creek Room:  The Heart of Golden
Surrounded by North and South Table Mountains, Clear Creek has drawn people to this area for millennia. 

We Are Still Here:  The Endurance of Native Jewels
(through April 2026)
In this exhibit, we define jewel as both a precious item as well as a woman of strength and importance. Explore how Indigenous women have persevered through hundreds of years of oppression and numerous attempts to destroy their culture. Featuring modern Native fashions that utilize ancient Indigenous jewels, learn about prominent Native women in contemporary American society. Not only are Native Americans still here; they have endured, and they are thriving.

Discovery Awaits:  Indigenous Connections, Epic Events, Legendary People, and the Touch Gallery. A new Jolly Rancher exhibit is in the works and will open in 2025.

Golden History Park (11th & Arapahoe):  The outdoor setting re-creates the look and feel of a late 1800's mountain ranch complete with gardens, a working blacksmith shop, schoolhouse and chicken coop (chickens included).

The main floor exhibits feature specimens from many Colorado mining districts, other global localities and an introductory video on area geology. The Special Exhibit Room hosts prominent precious metal and invited displays. The main gallery also showcases historic mining murals by Irwin Hoffman.

The basement contains numerous exhibits regarding radioactivity, fossils, basic geology, gemstones, meteorites, ultraviolet minerals and underground mining illumination. The outdoor geologic trail features seven outcrops with various geologic and paleontological points of interest, including fossilized dinosaur tracks, logs and leaves.

Quilts Inspired from Down Under - a solo exhibit by Bonnie Murphy

(through January 17, 2026)
Drawn to reproduction fabrics and patterns based on historical quilts from the 19th century, Bonnie began to notice most of her quilts were designed by Australian designers, Di Ford Hall, Margaret Mew, Susan Smith and Sandy Cousins, just to name a few! Although hand quilting her first quilts, Bonnie discovered she loved the look of machine quilting and found some very talented ladies who now longarm quilt her creations.

The Grandeur of the Moment - a solo exhibit by Linda Anderson

Linda Anderson tells compelling stories of people in many cultures around the world, many images gathered from her travels. Everyone, everywhere, has a story. Her realistic depictions celebrate the ordinary moments that often go unnoticed, capturing the essence of the humanity we all share. Facilitating that connection visually and highlighting the splendor of the commonplace is her goal.

Golden Walks

Where: Gateway Trailhead, 21100 US Highway 6, Golden, CO

Golden Walks is an informal group that walks along the Peaks to Plains trail adjacent to Clear Creek. People walk the distance they want and at their own pace, with the focus on connecting to others and the outdoors. This event occurs weather permitting and may be canceled for inclement weather, especially if the ground is icy. Meet at the Gateway Trailhead located on  highway 6 just west of the intersection with highway 93 (near highway 58).

Fit and Energize Exercise Class

Join the new free, Fit and Energize exercise class for older adults held at First United Methodist Church on Mondays and Wednesdays. This one-hour class taught by Elizabeth Handing, a certified Silver Sneaker instructor, will address both fitness and balance appropriate for those who are 55+. 

Come in the aqua door closest to 15th street and walk down the ramp to the room in which the class is held. The class is open to men and women.

My Small World - A Jen Kingwell Quilt

Where: Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum, 200 Violet Street, Suite 150, Golden, CO

Jen Kingwell loves to piece and quilt by hand - but has created some fantastic patterns that allow you to choose machine or hand piecing and let you experiment with multiple block styles combined into a single quilt. My Small World is Jen's version of the town/neighborhood she lived in - and you can modify it by using various components to create YOUR Small World. The overall quilt of Jen's pattern is 36 x 60 - and incorporates components that create factories, warehouses, apartment buildings, hills, mountains, and houses. Curved sections using fan or dresden and background and sky that are standard patchwork. Rita will walk you through all the components and help you get creative with how you want to build your own small world.

Learn how to build form using value and layering, mix rich colors and add highlights that make your donuts pop off the canvas. Whether you’re new to acrylics or just craving a low-pressure creative break, you’ll leave with a painting that looks good enough to eat!

GWiB’s very popular Table Talks provide an intimate place to sit around a table and learn about each woman’s business. The format is casual, with two or three women hosting the event by providing snacks and drinks and the opportunity to present their business in a “show & tell” format. Each woman attending is allowed to introduce themselves and their business. The intention is for women to have time to share the good, the bad and the ugly about their business.

*GWiB’s Table Talks are open to all GWiB Members. We want potential new members to check out our events before committing, so we invite you to attend two events (Book Club, Happy Hour or Table Talks) free of charge. After that, please become a member or pay the small drop in fee of $10/event. Table Talk presenters need to be a GWiB member.
