6:30 and 9PM Colorado Haunted History: Murder, Mayhem and Madness Tour

Golden, Colorado is known as the home of Coors Brewery and the School of Mines; however, during this haunted history tour, hear tales of the wild, wild west that this town once was. Tales include lynchings, shootouts, murder, and mayhem.

The Friday Tour

10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Each Friday, join us for an hour of exploring a different aspect of Colorado’s railroad history. Each tour covers a specific theme and on these dates our focus will be: Locomotives!

Tours are subject to change and are based on guide availability. Each week’s theme is explored using a variety of museum resources to help bring the subject to life with the understanding that guests are welcome to continue their visit on their own after the tour.

Friday Tour Tickets - $3 each plus General Admission ($10 adults, $5 kids 2-15, $8 seniors 60+).

The winners of the Center for Railroad Photography & Art’s 2025 John E. Gruber Creative Photography Contest have been announced, and these award-winning images are now on display at the Museum.

Black Diamonds and Steel Rails

The Psychology of Adornment:  Wearable Sculpture by Jesse Mathes

This exhibit explores the impact dramatic large-scale jewelry plays in interactions between the wearer and the viewer.

Fragile Things by by Sarah Tenney & Jenna Annunziato
(through November 9)
Through cut-out paintings, Tenney and Annunziato reflect on memory, connection, and the fragility of objects and relationships. Their works
balance nostalgia, allegory, and magical realism.

Clear Creek Room:  The Heart of Golden
Surrounded by North and South Table Mountains, Clear Creek has drawn people to this area for millennia. 

We Are Still Here:  The Endurance of Native Jewels
(through April 2026)
In this exhibit, we define jewel as both a precious item as well as a woman of strength and importance. Explore how Indigenous women have persevered through hundreds of years of oppression and numerous attempts to destroy their culture. Featuring modern Native fashions that utilize ancient Indigenous jewels, learn about prominent Native women in contemporary American society. Not only are Native Americans still here; they have endured, and they are thriving.

Discovery Awaits:  Indigenous Connections, Epic Events, Legendary People, and the Touch Gallery. A new Jolly Rancher exhibit is in the works and will open in 2025.

Golden History Park (11th & Arapahoe):  The outdoor setting re-creates the look and feel of a late 1800's mountain ranch complete with gardens, a working blacksmith shop, schoolhouse and chicken coop (chickens included).

The main floor exhibits feature specimens from many Colorado mining districts, other global localities and an introductory video on area geology. The Special Exhibit Room hosts prominent precious metal and invited displays. The main gallery also showcases historic mining murals by Irwin Hoffman.

The basement contains numerous exhibits regarding radioactivity, fossils, basic geology, gemstones, meteorites, ultraviolet minerals and underground mining illumination. The outdoor geologic trail features seven outcrops with various geologic and paleontological points of interest, including fossilized dinosaur tracks, logs and leaves.

Quilts Inspired from Down Under - a solo exhibit by Bonnie Murphy

(through January 17, 2026)
Drawn to reproduction fabrics and patterns based on historical quilts from the 19th century, Bonnie began to notice most of her quilts were designed by Australian designers, Di Ford Hall, Margaret Mew, Susan Smith and Sandy Cousins, just to name a few! Although hand quilting her first quilts, Bonnie discovered she loved the look of machine quilting and found some very talented ladies who now longarm quilt her creations.

The Grandeur of the Moment - a solo exhibit by Linda Anderson

Linda Anderson tells compelling stories of people in many cultures around the world, many images gathered from her travels. Everyone, everywhere, has a story. Her realistic depictions celebrate the ordinary moments that often go unnoticed, capturing the essence of the humanity we all share. Facilitating that connection visually and highlighting the splendor of the commonplace is her goal.

History Museum Tour

Have you ever wondered how museum exhibits are created and what it’s like to work with historic artifacts? There is much to consider from selection of the artifacts, to researching them, writing text for public view, and even selecting wall colors. Many interesting and unexpected stories pop up while working with artifacts. Join Stephanie Gilmore, curator of the Golden History Museum, for a special tour of the current exhibits. Stephanie will share behind-the-scenes stories about working as a curator, and will answer questions about Golden’s history, people, and events. This behind the scenes tour will include a preview showing of Rich Luckin's Golden Images in the Salon. Rich Luckin is a retired Coors employee who worked in their marketing department. He is a photographer and documentary filmmaker, having produced several PBS shows about trains and train history.
