When writing yesterday's recap of the MTAB meeting, I was perplexed about the narrowed right-of way. The drawings showed two lanes, but the meeting discussion referenced narrowing two car lanes down to one.
The City's Matt Wempe clarified the point for me. Only Jackson Street will be narrowed between 15th and 18th Streets. RTD buses will not block traffic because they will stop in the bike lane, which will be widened to 12 feet at that point.
Matt added, "The City and our consultant did examine if a single travel lane was possible but concluded based on a traffic study that it was not feasible corridor-wide at this time."
The traffic study does not mention whether Safeway, which has delivery trucks entering and exiting from Jackson, reviewed the plan.
