Correction:
My preview of last night's City Council meeting included a consent item regarding parking permits on 8th Street. I said they were approving the permit system. They actually approved the permits a few months ago. Last night's item approved a contract amendment with the parking management company. The City is guaranteed $250K as a base of their parking revenue. After that, they get a percentage of the take. In adding 8th Street to the parking management company's responsibilities, the City agreed to forego 2% of the revenue. They estimated that to equal about $12,000/year. See the packet item to learn more.
Addition:
There was also a late-breaking change to the agenda: they added an Executive Session (no public, no cameras) to hear legal advice regarding the $23.8 million Federal grant for flood mitigation along Lena Gulch.
When they emerged from the session, Anne Beierle, the Director of Public Works, summarized that the contract was revised after the election to say that acceptance of the funds meant that the City would cooperate and not hinder Federal immigration enforcement. That clause is being litigated and is currently not enforceable. You can watch this discussion starting at 1 hour, 24 minutes.
