7:30AM Mines M Climb @ ORC

August 16, 2016 - Photo by Dave Powers

The students have arrived at the School of Mines, and new students will be climbing up to the M this morning. Each will carry a 10-pound rock from their home towns. They will add it to the field of rocks that form the giant M on Mt. Zion, and then, together, they will whitewash the whole letter.

Tramway coming to Golden

The August 23, 1934 Colorado Transcript reported that the Tramway would continue Sunday excursion fares for the first three Sundays in September. Denver visitors were quickly discovering Golden as a hot spot for fun. The most recent Sunday had brought 529 visitors via the electric cars (streetcars).

The Golden Plunge indoor swimming pool was a big attraction, open from 10AM to midnight “with its pool of crystal pure mountain spring water.” People also came to enjoy our parks, enjoy picnics, take hikes, and watch ballgames.

The Transcript anticipated a big crowd for the organized labor picnic to be held Labor Day weekend.

Fall in Golden – enlarge

As the fall days come on, the mountains take on their most beautiful coloring of bright yellows and reds, among the green pines. These beautiful views, with the crisp, cool fall weather makes hiking in to the mountains tops a delightful experience for those who are used to city streets.

Those who have come to Golden on these excursions have been delighted with their trip. There is no reason why Golden should not become a resort that would rival Manitou in number of visitors and amusements.
