Dr. Branson reports that Mrs. Ed. Throckmorton, who has been suffering from smallpox, is recovering rapidly.
The December 26, 1900 Colorado Transcript reported that Golden had several cases of smallpox.
Three new cases of smallpox have been reported. Evidently these emanated from Denver.
The long-standing belief of Transcript management was that all infectious diseases (and most other undesirable things) emanated from Denver. Golden's city council was taking steps to avoid an epidemic.
SANITARY PRECAUTIONS
At a special meeting of the Golden city council, held yesterday afternoon, resolution was offered and unanimously adopted:
Qn account of the prevalence of smallpox in this district of the state, the board of health of Golden orders that all school children be vaccinated; that those unable to pay will be vaccinated free of charge.
That all public gatherings be strictly prohibited until further orders, and that all cases of contagious diseases be reported at once to the proper authorities.
Any violation of this order will be punnished according to the state law relating to contagious diseases, which provides a fine of from $25 to $300.
The health officer is hereby authorized to employ a guard or guards to look after these cases and see that the law is strictly enforced.
By order of the city council.
J. W. RUBEY, Mayor.
W . H . CARTER, City Clerk.
This effectively put an end to Golden's holiday social season.
By the action taken yesterday by the city council, all dances, entertainments, etc., will be indefinitely postponed. There will be no church services next Sunday.
