Keep on Rucking

Out and Back - Photo by Chris Davell
The Defense Coordinating Element for FEMA Region VIII descended on Golden yesterday. This time, they hiked the Clear Creek Trail in a windstorm with rucksacks full of clothing. When they returned to town, they contributed the clothing to the Golden Pantry and Thrift.

"Far from unlucky"

Golden City Hall - Google Street Images
On Friday the 13, 1964, the Golden Gardeners Club received a $300 grant from Sears, Roebuck to be used for a community beautification project. Inspired by that gesture, the Golden Kiwanis, Lions and Optimists Clubs, Adolph Coors Co. and Mr. Leonard Vogel also contributed to the fund.

Golden had built a new City Hall in 1961, and it was thus far unlandscaped. The club used the money to plant trees, bushes and lawn around the new building.

Friday the 13th was far from unlucky for the Golden Gardeners. That is the day that the local garden club received a $3OO grant in the community beautification program sponsored by the Colorado Federation of Garden Clubs, Inc. and Sears, Roebuck and Co.
