Each Friday, join us for an hour of exploring the highlights of Colorado’s railroad history.
Tours are subject to change and are based on guide availability. Each week’s theme is explored using a variety of museum resources to help bring the subject to life with the understanding that guests are welcome to continue their visit on their own after the tour.
Friday Tour Tickets - $3 each plus General Admission ($10 adults, $5 kids 2-15, $8 seniors 60+).

The recipient of a 2006 MacArthur Foundation Fellowship (“Genius” Award), George Saunders has authored two novels, four collections of short stories, a novella, a book of essays, and an award-winning children’s book. His most recent collection, Liberation Day, is a masterful work that explores ideas of power, ethics, and justice, and cuts to the very heart of what it means to live in community with our fellow humans. He is the author of two novels, his forthcoming book Vigil and the Man Booker Prize-winning Lincoln in the Bardo. Saunders’s collection, Tenth of December, was the winner of the 2014 Story Prize and the 2014 Folio Prize. His work appears regularly in The New Yorker, GQ, and Harpers Magazine, and has appeared in the O’Henry, Best American Short Story, Best Non-Required Reading, and Best American Travel Writing anthologies. Saunders is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship and was named one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World by TIME Magazine in 2013. He teaches in the Creative Writing Program at Syracuse University.

This series is all about building your confidence as a visitor to Jeffco Open Space Parks, enhancing your skills, and fostering a deep connection with the natural world. In this session you'll learn how to gear up for cold-weather adventures by understanding how to dress appropriately, navigate snowy trails, and stay safe in winter conditions.

Tonight: The evening kicks off at 6:30 p.m. with a special appearance by Moana herself, followed by a high-energy main Kalama Polynesian Dancers, including a fire finale that lights up the night. Moana returns briefly to greet fans before the movie begins.
The series features free music and a family-friendly movie each Friday night. The featured movie of the night begins at dusk, around 8:30 p.m. The movies are shown on a giant inflatable screen under the stars. More information

Golden History: Old South Golden Road

Marcie Miller gave me this photo, in the form of a large print. The back of the photo says to Credit the Colorado Historical Society and has “1932” hand-written.

Based on the map above, which is approximately the same vintage, I think that’s the intersection of what we’d now call “South Golden Road” and “Ulysses Street.” The railroad tracks that appear a bit higher on the mountain are the Denver & Intermountain, on its way to Pleasant View and Lakewood.
