This article appeared in the January 10, 1924 Colorado Transcript:

COUNCIL MOVES TO STOP 'HOOKING ON'
At the city council meeting last Friday evening there was considerable discussion regarding the practice of children hooking their sleds to automobiles and trucks, and ways and means of stopping this practice were talked over.

Alderman Jones reported that he saw a heavily loaded truck going up the Fourteenth street hill, with sleds bearing several small children trailing it. Mr. Jones called attention to the certainty of a terrible tragedy should the truck have stopped and its brakes have failed. The truck would have gone backwards and crushed one or more of the children. Even if there were a law to prevent "hooking on," it would be difficult to enforce it with children. In most cases, the motorists do not know they are towing sleds up the hills.

The city will do all it can to prevent accidents, and efforts will be made to induce the children to coast on hills where the traffic is light. However, the mayor and other city officials are asking the parents to aid by forbidding their children to hook on to autos and trucks.
