Small Business Saturday

This is a national event designed to encourage us to buy from local, small businesses. This might be a good excuse to do a fun shopping trip in downtown Golden.
Stop by the Golden Welcome Center between 10AM and 1PM to pick up a free reusable shopping bag. Unlike previous years, the bag will not include coupons and offers from local merchants, but the Golden Chamber has collected 18 offers from their members and Visit Golden has a list of 10 offers from downtown businesses.
10AM and 12PM Opening Day for The Nutcracker @ Miners Alley

The Story of the Nutcracker - Miners Alley Performing Arts Center Children's Theater
Nearly everyone knows the tale of the Nutcracker, which is given as a gift to Marie from her Godfather Drosselmeier on Christmas Eve. Sadly, the beautiful Nutcracker gets broken and later that night Marie goes to check up on it. To her surprise, it has come alive, and a story‐within‐the‐story begins! The audience is invited to become a part of the Nutcracker story, and everyone gets to live happily ever after. Buy Tickets.

In 1954, the Golden Optimist Club began a new fund-raiser. They set up a Christmas tree lot on the empty property at the northeast corner of 13th and Washington. The Optimists are a service club with a special focus on service to young people in the community.
The trees were freshly cut and affordably priced, and the sale was a great success. They did it again the following year and the year after that, and the year after that. Through most of that time, the local Boy Scout troop supported the effort. They helped unload the trees, set them up for sale, and load trees on customers' cars.
The sale is now in its 71st year. This year, the Boy Scouts are running it all on their own. The trees are still fresh and affordable. If you plan to buy a real tree this year, follow the long-standing Golden tradition: head to the US Bank parking lot at 19th and Jackson (map) and support Golden Boy Scouts, Troop 329.
