2-4PM Sunday at the Museum - Blue and White Trunk Show @ Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum
The color blue has some wonderful shades and variations - and some really interesting history! A team of RMQM volunteers have been researching the history and as every quilt was donated to be used in this Trunk Show, they have researched the patterns, dyes and history to understand EACH Quilt. We have a fabulous collection to show you as we teach - with quilts from about 1875 to 2018 to tell the story of Blue and Whites.
Free to members / $15 for non-members

Golden History: Guess That Date!

Guess the Date: A City of Cheap Electricity – Golden History Museum Collection – enlarge
The Golden History Museum describes this photo as follows:
This is a black and white photograph of a large sign reading “Golden / Home of Colorado School of Mines / A City of Cheap Electricity / Served by / Colorado Central Power Company.” Above the main text of the sign is a circular Kiwanis Club logo flanked by “Meets Tue. 6:30 P.M. / Wright Hotel.” Behind this sign in the background a sign in the shape of an arrow pointing left is visible, which reads “Golden Tourist Park,” a business that was located near Jackson Street and 23rd. This photo is one of four similar photos of the same sign taken from slightly different angles.
This inspires me to play one of my favorite games: “Guess that Date!”
The clues included the reference to the School of Mines, reference to the Kiwanis club, the Wright Hotel, and the arrow behind the sign pointing to the Golden Tourist Park.
The School of Mines was founded in 1874–so it’s later than that.
The Golden Kiwanis Club was founded in 1921–so later than that. (Colorado Transcript – December 1, 1921)
The City purchased Sapp’s Grove and renamed it The Golden Tourist Park in 1923–so later than that.
Colorado Center Power arrived in Golden in 1926 (Transcript – December 2, 1926) and stayed until 1962 (Transcript – February 15, 1962), so the photo is between those years.
The best clue was the Wright Hotel, which was one of the earlier incarnations of the Table Mountain Inn. It acquired that name in the fall of 1937 (Transcript – November 4, 1937) and was purchased and renamed “the Golden Hotel” in 1939 (Transcript – June 15, 1939).
So there you go–the photo was taken between 1937 and 1939!
