The Kinney Run Open Space is identified by the Cornell Lab website as an eBird Hotspot. Join Karl Brummert, former Director of Denver Audubon, for an early morning walk along the Kinney Run Trail. An authentic, coal burning Colorado steam locomotive will pull trains for this event. Hands-on demonstrations and even the Museum’s own mascot, Spike the Railroad Dog will be part of the event! Jefferson Symphony Orchestra Conductor Arturo J. Gonzales will be holding a pre-concert talk at 12:15 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. He will discuss the history and composition of the Star Wars Soundtrack, what to listen for, and how to break down John Williams’ brilliant compositions.

Jefferson Symphony will perform the soundtrack from the acclaimed Star Wars franchise. Composed by the legendary John Williams, our performance will bring to life the sci-fi epic that has enshrined itself in cinema history. Featuring pieces from the original trilogy and beyond, we’re excited to present this tribute to Golden in two performances at 1:00pm and 4:00pm.
Costumes are encouraged! Children in costume will receive admission at the door for FREE! Adults in costume can receive 5$ off a ticket at the door. Save on Wine too! Purchase a wine ticket online and receive a discount off each glass. Celebrating 48 years of the Skywalker Saga, we hope to see you there!

Golden History: Where Once There Was a School

Mitchell Elementary School was located on 12th Street (across from the post office) until it moved to its new location on the north side of town. The school was built with federal funding during the Depression and torn down in 1998. The Golden Urban Renewal Authority fostered several major redevelopment projects on the former school property.
