Live Bluegrass. Golden Brews. Garden Views
Hosted by the Golden Community Garden, local musicians from Big Hooray and Slay & Stinson, and fueled by the generosity of our neighbors at Cast Iron Tavern, New Terrain Brewing, and Golden City Brewery—this is more than a party. It’s a celebration of community strength and shared hope.
Since 1965, Golden Pantry & Thrift has provided food, clothing, emergency assistance, and compassion to our neighbors in need. As demand grows, so does the need for support. Together, we can help make sure no one in Golden is left behind.

Golden History: A Fascinating Empty Shell

Historic postcards of the Buffalo Bill Museum & Gravesite

The Buffalo Bill Museum has undergone many changes since it was built a century ago. The museum has consistently attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. By the 1970s, the original log building was clearly inadequate for the size of the crowds, so the City of Denver (which owns the museum) built a new, modern building with a large deck overlooking the spectacular view of the plains. They considered demolishing the older building, but in the end, decided to use it for the gift shop and cafe.

Another half century has gone by since that change was made, and now the museum's management is putting some serious work into the infrastructure of the old log building. It is currently, temporarily empty. I had a chance to tour it a couple of weeks ago, and it was fascinating to see the empty, unadorned shell, with its huge timbers and stone foundations.
The museum's director has offered to take a group of GoldenToday readers on a tour! Let me know if you would like to see the museum in its current empty state: barb@goldentoday.com.
