The May 13, 1954 Colorado Transcript announced that a new subdivision had been approved by the Planning Commission. The area, between 21st and 22nd, Washington and Arapahoe, was tentatively called "Goldcrest."

The plat that appeared in the 5/13/53 Transcript (above) and the present-day Google map. Note that the original name of "Goldcrest Circle" evolved into "Washington Circle."

The May 20th Transcript described the topography as "rugged, deep and meandering," but said it would "soon be dotted with new and attractive homes." The curve in Washington Avenue was designed "to reduce the grade and fit the contour."

Golden experienced a maelstrom of new home construction in the decades after World War II. A quick Transcript search for the word "subdivision" revealed many projects. You may recognize some of these names.
