The Special Events Review Committee will continue their discussion about how distribute City support more equitibly between events.
They will consider two grant applications. The Golden Concert Choir is requesting $900 to defray the expenses of their winter concert, which include $600 space rental to Calvary Church and $300 to have their piano tuned. Foothills Art Center is requesting $5000 to support marketing costs for the 50th Annual Holiday Art Market. This late in the year, the committee only has $1700 remaining in their budget.
They will review recent events (Trick or Treat Street) and discuss upcoming events (Candlelight Walk on Dec 5, Holiday Parade on Dec 13 and Jingle on the Avenue Dec 20).

The Planning Commission is working to identify strategies to encourage more infill and density in our small, land-limited town. Last month they discussed the neighborhoods zoned "RE," which allow extra-big lots. Some members of Council (the Mayor and Don Cameron) had suggested that these neighborhoods be allowed to subdivide lots to encourage new infill consisting of more, smaller homes, cottage clusters, and townhomes. The Planning Commission was not interested in pursuing that path until they had gone through a public input process, to see if the residents welcomed that idea.
Tonight, they will be discussing areas labeled "Transition Zone." Staff suggests that permitting a greater variety of building form types might encourage infill development.

Santa Claus to Open Work Shop in Golden
Claude Miner, who has been pinch-hitting for Santa Claus in the community for many years, announces that the Golden Plunge building will soon be converted into a Christmas work shop.
Colorado Transcript – November 19, 1936

During the Depression years, the Golden community collected used toys and cleaned or repaired them as needed for redistribution. This article mentions teachers, the ladies auxiliary of the American Institute of Mining Engineers, the WPA sewing room, Boy Scouts, school children, and the Camp Fire Girls all taking on various tasks. Some repaired the toys, some sewed new clothing for dolls, some collected and some delivered the toys.
The Golden Gem Theater hosted a “Toy Matinee.” A toy was the price of admission. The boys at the Industrial School ran a doll repair workshop.

Hundreds of little girls and boys in Golden and vicinity are made happy each year as a result of the cooperative effort of those who interest themselves in this work.
