6:30 and 9PM After the Snowfall Ski Film @ Buffalo Rose

Opening on a quiet, storm-buried morning, After The Snowfall is a high-octane and heartfelt journey through the culture and chaos of modern skiing. Filmed in stunning locations from the Lyngen Alps of Norway to the heli-accessed steeps of British Columbia, the film showcases an elite crew of skiers, including Michelle Parker, Nikolai Schirmer, Nico Porteous, Caite Zeliff, and more, pushing boundaries with jaw-dropping style and skill.

But this is not just a story about pros. It is about the everyday ski bum, the weekend warrior, and the mountain town lifer whose passion burns just as bright. Interwoven throughout the action are honest and irreverent reflections from both athletes and everyday skiers on what skiing means to them; why they risk injury, chase fleeting storms, and build their lives around snow. The film explores both the literal mountains they climb and the internal terrain they navigate: personal growth, camaraderie, obsession, and joy.

Golden History: The Best Clay

The October 7, 1920 Colorado Transcript included the following:

In the international airplane races, held in France recently, all the American planes were equipped with spark plugs made with clay mined in Golden. These plugs were made at Belvidere, Ill., after a long series of experiments with different kind of clay. It was found that the white plastic clay, mined by the Rubey Clay company, was the best, and the company is now getting out an order of four carloads of this grade of clay for the Belvidere concern.

Clay mine at the western edge of the Fossil Trace - Google Satellite image

Golden had many active clay mines in past years. The traces of those mines are still evident throughout the area, particularly on the west side of town. Fossil Trace Golf Course was built on former clay-mining land; in fact, some of the old mining equipment remains on the fringes of the course.

Correction: yesterday's history article included incorrect election results. Mark Macha won the Ward 2 seat in 1985; not Al Bachman.

Review: Diva Royale

Curtain Up!

In its regional premiere, Diva Royale kicks off at Miners Alley Performing Arts Center with plenty of slapstick, sequins, and full-throttle lip-syncing. Under the gleefully raucous direction of Associate Artistic Director Warren Sherrill, actor/playwright Jeff Daniels’ farcical comedy follows three Midwestern moms on a wild ride of personal reinvention and over-the-top theatrics. What starts as a search for their guiding light evolves into a vibrant tale about identity and illusion, where shimmering angels and big laughs take center stage. In an age when self-expression is under siege, Diva Royale doesn’t retreat—it lip-syncs with total abandon... Read more...
