This advertisement appeared in the December 7, 1916 Colorado Transcript. O. D. Lemert & Co. was a hardware store. They were located on Ford Street, so a bit off the main drag. Their motto was "Walk a Block or Two and Save a Dollar or Two." They were apparently strong believers in advertising, as they ran large display lads in the Transcript as long as they were in business.

I've never understood the point of the creepy-looking mascot, but maybe that was popular in that era...there was a recurring series of ads for Calumet Baking Powder at about the same time. They featured a cartoon child who was probably supposed to be cute but was also a bit on the creepy side.

The Michelin Man made frequent appearances in the paper, looking like a portly mummy. He was invented in the late 1890s. He's still around (and let's face it, he's still a bit creepy).
