The November 23, 1976 Golden Transcript featured this photo of the new Taco John's restaurant being lowered into place at 23rd and Ford Streets. The caption commented that "everything was set up and ready to go except the beans in the cook pot." The proud owners were teachers who were changing careers.

Taco John’s closed their Golden store sometime in the 1990s. It was replaced for a year or two by a restaurant called “Taco Mesa.” After that, Golden Frames & Gifts moved in and remained there for about a decade.

Bonfire Burrito bought the building in 2019 and has attracted a devoted, almost cult-like following.
