Tonight's Topics:

  • Staff is working with the Sustainability staff to create a downtown trash collection district. They will be releasing an RFP this fall.
  • The Community Marketing group is encouraging Golden businesses to participate in a new program: "Golden Hour." The intent is that Golden businesses will come up with an attraction or entertainment to attract local people into their businesses. Community Marketing is asking the DDA to help finance grants which will defray the expenses to the businesses. The scheduled dates are:

August 12 - Theme: Show Us You're Golden
September 16 - Theme: Where the West Lives
October 14 - Theme: Ghouls' Night Out

Those dates all fall on a Wednesday. Businesses can apply for grants up to $750 (individually) or up to $1000 (if working with other businesses). See p. 8 of the meeting packet for more information.

Future Events:

  • The board plans to discuss "Wild Ideas" next month.
  • They have been considering turning the parking lot between the Astor House & Miners Alley into a plaza with tables, benches, etc. They may do a "pop up" on October 10th to show the public how the area could look as a non-parking lot.
  • The project to remove 51 parking spaces from Jackson Street is on hold this year and will resume in 2027.
  • They're still reviewing the cost of upgrading electrical service to the Farmers Market lot and Parfet Park. They may opt for a "lower cost option."
