6PM Arts and Culture Commission Meeting @ City Hall Council Chambers

They will begin with public comment from anyone who wishes to address the board. After that, tonight's topics include:

  • The Commission will hear from Lora Knowlton, manager of the Golden Welcome Center.
  • Gabe Rovick of F4D Studio will tell them about the Stories Worth Telling film Festival.
  • They will review the Arts & Culture Strategic Plan (pp. 9-16 of the meeting packet).
Water tower by Gateway Village, proposed place for a mural
  • They received a written public comment, reminding them of a 2018 request for a mural on the water tower by Gateway Village (Red Rocks Origin Hotel, Harley Davidson, etc.). The letter appears on pp. 6-8 of the meeting packet.
  • Public Art for Lions Park - a subcommittee met on Aug 20th to choose finalists. The three finalists will develop two concepts. From those, the subcommittee will choose an artist.

  • 250/150 Artwork - the State donated two new artworks to celebrate Colorado's 150th anniversary. One is the mural being painted on the water treatment building (not sure what the other is).
  • The History Museum will hold an event on 9/16 (6-7:30PM) where people can create collages to describe their own stories. They will open their new Vietnam Veterans exhibit on 9/24 from 5-7PM.
  • The City has opened applications for $350K in grants for local cultural organizations.
