Written by local playwright Luke Sorge, this dark comedy follows two estranged brothers who return to their tiny hometown to confront their oldest brother, John, who has taken their mother out of her care facility. As legal ramifications, financial implications, and family history are uncovered, so is John’s true motive. Directed by Warren Sherrill, National Bohemians is funny, moving, and somewhat supernatural.
I saw the play on one of the opening nights, and was bowled over by the acting, the story, and the technical effects. I emerged feeling shellshocked—and wanting a beer.
