The Community Marketing Stakeholder Committee will review the Goldens in Golden event, which took place downtown last Saturday, February 8th.

The two consultants who support Visit Golden were asked to come up with other shoulder season events. Their suggestion involves a public art display of about twenty fiberglass Golden Retrievers, to capitalize on the popularity of Goldens in Golden. The pieces would be sponsored and decorated by local businesses and would be on display around town from October until February. (See p. 16 of the meeting memo for more information on this idea.) They are also thinking of a series of events that could be packaged together as a spring break celebration.

They will review the Marketing Plan for 2025, which promotes Golden as "The Perfect Day." The goal is to make Golden the "#1 preferred day trip destination for people who live in our geographic target areas." (See p. 7 of the meeting packet.)

The target areas include

  • Denver metro area (including Golden)
  • Front Range from Fort Collins to Colorado Springs
  • Out-of-state visitors.

The target demographics are:

  • Millenials (29-44 years old)
  • Families with children (25-54 years old)
  • Empty nesters (50 up to retirement)

The budget for 2025 is $524,423, plus anything left from the 2024 budget. Most of this goes to consultants, paid advertising, and the company that maintains the VisitGolden.com website. (See p. 15 of the meeting packet.)

The merchants have not been happy with the City's management of the marketing program, which they have found expensive, cumbersome, and lacking in local knowledge and involvement. They proposed spinning off the program to be a separate non-profit entity. City Council discussed the proposal at their January 14th study session. They concluded that the program needs more city control rather than less. The group will discuss this new form of management at today's meeting.
