The July 14, 1983 Colorado Transcript showed the Coors International Bicycle Classic leaving Golden, en route to Vail. According to Wikipedia, this race was repeated in the years from 1980-1988.
The event inspired a 1985 movie, starring Kevin Costner, about a bicycle race set in Colorado. This clip from American Flyers shows Coors and a bit of downtown as the riders zip through Golden. The Library has a copy of the movie on DVD. Aside from the brief glimpse of Golden, there's not much to recommend it.
