Proclamation
WHEREAS, the Lions Club is holding its Annual Blind-Made Broom and Mop Sale on May 17,1969, to support its deserving project, Sight Conservation; WHEREAS, members of this organization are going from door-to-door in our city selling these quality articles, all of which are manufactured by skilled Blind-Craftsmen, to raise funds for this project; and WHEREAS f this effort in behalf of an important and worthy cause merits city-wide attention, NOW, THEREFORE, I, Charles L. Goudge, Mayor of Golden,, do hereby proclaim May 17, 1969, as “BROOMS FOR THE BLIND DAY”. Charles L. Goudge Mayor

From 1962 until the mid-1970s, the Golden Lions Club conducted an annual sale of brooms, make by blind craftsmen. The proceeds were donated to organizations that benefitted blind people.
The Lions Cub continues to support vision programs. They provide free vision screening to school children, fund corneal transplants, pay for eye exams and glasses for the needy, recycle prescription eyeglasses, and fund skilled services for people with eye diseases.
