Every year, the Center for Railroad Photography & Art holds a contest that attracts some of today’s finest and most creative photographers. Those who placed in this year’s program will have their photographs displayed at the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden into 2023. The Museum’s goal is to showcase not only Colorado’s rich railroad history, but also the many creative people—around the world—who keep the spirit of railroading alive and well in the 21st century.

The Salon:  Golden High School 150th Anniversary Exhibit 

Golden History Park (11th & Arapahoe):  The outdoor setting re-creates the look and feel of a late 1800's mountain ranch complete with gardens, a working blacksmith shop, schoolhouse and chicken coop (chickens included).

The main floor exhibits feature specimens from many Colorado mining districts, other global localities and an introductory video on area geology. The Special Exhibit Room hosts prominent precious metal and invited displays. The main gallery also showcases historic mining murals by Irwin Hoffman.

The basement contains numerous exhibits regarding radioactivity, fossils, basic geology, gemstones, meteorites, ultraviolet minerals and underground mining illumination. The outdoor geologic trail features seven outcrops with various geologic and paleontological points of interest, including fossilized dinosaur tracks, logs and leaves.

Thorns & Spikes | The 4 Common Corners

It is amazing to see what comes from a creative group of people challenging each other to create original quilts for a theme. They take 4 months to develop and create their work for each theme. This exhibit is the result of the THEME challenge "Thorns and Spikes" for a group who all live in the Common 4 Corner states, and the only rule is that their work represents these states.

Shred-A-Thon

The JCSO is proud to join with Metro Denver Crime Stoppers, Fox 31 / KDVR, Shred-It Denver and other metro area law enforcement to help prevent identity theft by holding our annual Shred-a-thons at three law enforcement locations throughout the metro Denver area.

There will be no charge for the event, however, donations are encouraged and go directly to the Metro Denver Crime Stoppers. Crime Stoppers is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that supports local law enforcement agencies by offering cash awards to individuals who can help solve crime and submit tips through our tip line 720.913.STOP (7867). All tipsters remain anonymous.

Where: Jefferson County Administration and Courts Facility, 100 Jefferson County Parkway, Golden, CO

People with active warrants in Gilpin or Jefferson counties in the following categories will have an opportunity to resolve their case without being arrested:

• Low-level, non-violent misdemeanors and traffic offenses
• Select low-level non-violent felonies which have been reclassified as misdemeanors  
• Some class 5 and class 6 felony property offenses and class 4 drug felonies

The Fresh Start event will not only benefit individuals with outstanding warrants but will cut down on the costs to taxpayers and allow law enforcement to direct their resources toward offenders who commit higher level crimes and directly victimize others in the community. Questions about eligibility can be emailed here. Questions about probation violation warrants can be emailed here.

There will also be community resources available for anyone interested, including the Community Connections Center (C3), Bayaud Enterprises, Behavioral Treatment Services, Benefits in Action, Front Range Clinic, Hazelbrook Sober Living, Intervention, Inc., Kenekt, and Master's Apprentice.

Dinosaur Express Train

Dinosaurs are coming back to Golden, Colorado—only this time, they are arriving on the Dinosaur Express Train! Railroad tracks will meet dinosaur tracks for a day of family fun at the Colorado Railroad Museum, when the Dinosaur Express Train chugs into the museum’s station.

The world’s first Stegosaurus and Apatosaurus fossils were found at nearby Dinosaur Ridge, and Golden is where the first T-Rex tooth fossil was discovered, so it’s only fitting that two of every kid’s favorite things – dinosaurs and trains – be brought together for this fun festival.

Full Walking Tour @ Dinosaur Ridge

Where: Dinosaur Ridge, 16831 West Alameda Parkway, Morrison, CO

The Full Walking Tour is a guided tour of the East and West sides of Dinosaur Ridge. A volunteer guide will interpret the dinosaur tracks and bone fossils, local history, and geology during the one-way, 1.5-mile tour on a paved trail will take 1.5-2 hours. All walkers require a ticket to be transported via a shuttle bus to their starting point. This tour is designed for participants ages 10 and older. 
Tour Specifics:

  • $18 per person (All walkers require a ticket to be transported via a shuttle bus to their starting point)
  • 1.5-2 hours
  • Admission to the Exhibit Hall is included with each ticket
  • Masks are required on the shuttle bus (ages 3+).
  • Tour may be called off for active precipitation, temps below 32 degrees, or lack of registrations.
  • Appropriate attire: comfortable shoes, sun hats, sunglasses, removable clothing (windbreakers, fleeces, etc…)
  • Bring water
  • Minimum of 2 and maximum of 13 participants

Golden Super Cruise

2024 is the start of the Golden Super Cruise’s 20th official anniversary season. There will no longer be entertainment, official vendors, an information line or email contact. The Cruise has always been yours and you know the drill. If you’ve been a participant or spectator, come out as usual. If you’re new to the Cruise, start at South Golden Road and jump in. It’s easy and the people are great. Support the City of Golden and Golden businesses because they’ve always been our gracious hosts. Thank you very sincerely for the perfect job of picking up and packing out trash. Point of important courtesy: Drive straight through all roundabouts, but ESPECIALLY at South Golden Road and Ulysses at the top of the hill. Tell others and use it as a cooldown and space it out to come back around through the Quaker roundabout.
