The Friday Tour

10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Each Friday, join us for an hour of exploring a different aspect of Colorado’s railroad history. Each tour covers a specific theme and on these dates our focus will be: Locomotives!

Tours are subject to change and are based on guide availability. Each week’s theme is explored using a variety of museum resources to help bring the subject to life with the understanding that guests are welcome to continue their visit on their own after the tour.

Clear Creek Room:  The Heart of Golden
Surrounded by North and South Table Mountains, Clear Creek has drawn people to this area for millennia. 

Discovery Awaits:  Indigenous Connections, Epic Events, Glimpses of Golden, Legendary People, and the Touch Gallery. 

Golden History Park (11th & Arapahoe):  The outdoor setting re-creates the look and feel of a late 1800's mountain ranch complete with gardens, a working blacksmith shop, schoolhouse and chicken coop (chickens included).

The main floor exhibits feature specimens from many Colorado mining districts, other global localities and an introductory video on area geology. The Special Exhibit Room hosts prominent precious metal and invited displays. The main gallery also showcases historic mining murals by Irwin Hoffman.

The basement contains numerous exhibits regarding radioactivity, fossils, basic geology, gemstones, meteorites, ultraviolet minerals and underground mining illumination. The outdoor geologic trail features seven outcrops with various geologic and paleontological points of interest, including fossilized dinosaur tracks, logs and leaves.

Medallion Quilts by Cindy Vermillion Hamilton

Cindy is a self-taught folk artist bringing new life to traditional quilt design using unique arrangements of color and pattern. Her specialties are hand-pieced and hand-quilted medallion, sunflower and sunburst designs.

NORTHEAST GALLERY 
It’s All About…the Face, the Place, the Story by Phyllis Cullen

A retrospective collection of quilts by an artist with her own diverse set of voices, of portraits, animals, landscapes, messages and stories.

Dinosaur Ridge and Footprints

When: 9:30AM-1PM
Where: Dinosaur Ridge, 16831 West Alameda Parkway, Morrison, CO

Front Porch Program

Dinosaur Ridge Tour with Bob Mason and lunch at Footprints. Learn about the dinosaurs that walked here 150 million years ago. After a short orientation, a bus will take us up to the Ridge where we can see rocks and fossils that help us to understand ancient environments. After this bus trip, we will have time to visit the Trek Through Time exhibit hall (and the gift shop, too). Lunch will be in the Footprints restaurant at the Fossil Trace Golf Course, where there are additional dinosaur displays. Only 13 seats on the bus so reserve your spot now! Registration fee covers your admission to Dinosaur Ridge. Cost of lunch at Footprints is on your own and ranges from $20-30.

The Denver Postcard & Paper Show is unique to Denver.  Why?  Because of the many friendly faces and the variety of merchandise at every show!  It is one of very few shows in Colorado that offer a wide variety of antique and collectible postcards but also trade cards, stereoview cards, photographs and other paper ephemera.
