The Golden History Museum has outdone themselves with their new exhibit, "Welcome Home: Honoring Colorado’s Vietnam Veterans." Last night's opening reception was inspiring, with many Vietnam veterans in attendance. Each received a Vietnam Veterans lapel pin, created in observation of the 50th anniversary of the war.
Exhibits include uniforms and photographs of the era. Interpretive signs describe societal conditions of the time, including the draft, those who were able to avoid the draft, conscientious objectors, and resistance to the war on the homefront. Two Quilts of Valor are on display, and one was presented (by a wife to her veteran husband) at last night's event.
There was much more than I could absorb in one exhibit, including a series of portraits and associated books covering several of the veterans. I look forward to learning more.
The exhibit will be open for the next year. Make sure you see it.
