The February 11, 1943 Colorado Transcript announced that 25% more chicks would be needed in 1943. The United States was producing food for war-torn Europe as well as domestic consumption. The Golden Mill stood ready to provide premium feed to Golden’s poultry-producing households.
The paper also reminded its readers to plan their Victory gardens. “Last year about 80,000 Colorado farmers grew home gardens. This year it is estimated that more than twice as many–165,000–will be needed.”
