The Golden Community Center is a 71,483 square foot multifunction recreation facility beautifully situated in Lions Park. The Community Center first opened its doors in October 1994. A major renovation in 2006-2007 expanded the existing structure into a state-of-the-art recreation facility complete with two indoor swimming pools, a large climbing wall, and expanded fitness and community use areas with new equipment.

The Community Center boasts a full array of activities, classes, and fitness opportunities for everyone in the community, from tot to senior. Active adults gather in the upstairs Front Porch area for community and conversation, while downstairs, the leisure pool with water slide is popular with children. Adults, meanwhile, enjoy a variety of fitness options from free weights and cardio machinesto group fitness classes and personal trainers to help you reach your goals.

Center for Railroad Photography & Art Winners
Every year, the Center for Railroad Photography & Art holds a contest that attracts some of today’s finest and most creative photographers. Those who placed in this year’s program will have their photographs displayed at the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden into 2023. The Museum’s goal is to showcase not only Colorado’s rich railroad history, but also the many creative people—around the world—who keep the spirit of railroading alive and well in the 21st century.

Beebe and Clegg: Their Enduring Photographic Legacy
This exhibit focuses on Lucius Beebe who—joined in 1941 by his life partner Charles Clegg—introduced railroad photography and the world of railroading to popular audiences in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. Employing dramatic images and sweeping promotional strategies, this dynamic duo created more than 30 books on railroading and Western Americana, demonstrating that the railroad serves the nation as an icon of the American experience.

Romance Along the Rails: The Phenomenon of Beebe and Clegg
In this companion exhibit, learn more about this fascinating couple and view correspondence, Colorado-specific publications, and other physical reminders of their love affair with Colorado and its narrow gauge railroading legacy.

Golden History Park (11th & Arapahoe):  The outdoor setting re-creates the look and feel of a late 1800's mountain ranch complete with gardens, a working blacksmith shop, schoolhouse and chicken coop (chickens included).

The main floor exhibits feature specimens from many Colorado mining districts, other global localities and an introductory video on area geology. The Special Exhibit Room hosts prominent precious metal and invited displays. The main gallery also showcases historic mining murals by Irwin Hoffman.

The basement contains numerous exhibits regarding radioactivity, fossils, basic geology, gemstones, meteorites, ultraviolet minerals and underground mining illumination. The outdoor geologic trail features seven outcrops with various geologic and paleontological points of interest, including fossilized dinosaur tracks, logs and leaves.

Everything Dinosaurs on the Rocks is a lecture series filled with basic and local Colorado foothills geology and a literal ton of dinosaur knowledge all in one place! Join us in person OR online via Zoom for the entire series. Can’t attend during the morning? Not an issue! We record the sessions and will send you a link to the recording so you can watch on your own time.

Education Programs Director Erin LaCount will lead the paleontology-themed lectures, and Education, Collections, and Camp Coordinator Amanda Rea will lead the geology-themed lectures. Each lecture is 1.5 hours long.

Navigating a legal problem is tricky. If you don’t have an attorney, but need a little advice, this free legal self-help clinic can help. Volunteer lawyers are available to answer questions, help fill out forms and explain the process and procedures for all areas of civil litigation, including family law, property law, probate law, landlord-tenant law and much more. Registration for a 15-minute appointment is required, and registration opens two weeks prior.

Jefferson County is in the third phase of the Together Jeffco Plans and Regulations Update! Together Jeffco is a two year process which combines efforts to update the Comprehensive Plan (CP), Transportation & Mobility Plan (TMP), Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP), Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan Evacuation Annex (CEMP EA), and development regulations to create a Unified Land Use Code (ULUC).

Join us between 4:00 - 6:00 PM at the Lookout Mountain Room at the Jefferson County Administration and Courts Building (100 Jefferson County Parkway, Golden) for an open house. Spanish interpretation will be provided and children are welcome. Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend. The REDI (Race, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) Task Force is composed of community members and city staff who have a key role in implementing aspects of the REDI Action Plan, finalized by the City in November of 2022.

The Task Force focuses on promoting accountability for implementing the REDI Action Plan and coordinating community-wide efforts to advance equity.

The task force meets monthly in Council Chambers (911 10th St.) on the first Thursday of the month from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.

Golden Teen Nights is a program designed and operated by a group of Golden High School students with Golden Rotarians serving as helpers/advisors.   Teen Nights is designed to give students an opportunity to interact with their peers in a setting outside of school.  It is held the first Thursday of each month (excluding June and July), 5:00 to 7:30 pm at the Golden Community Center.  Attractions include board games, swimming, pool, soft drinks, pizza, snacks, and just hanging out. Other organizations are often invited to attend and make presentations to the teens. The program is funded by a Thriving Community grant from the City of Golden.

A Jukebox for the Algonquin

The contemporary community room at the Placid Pines Senior Care Center could really use a jukebox. When it costs more than the center can raise, a small band of former Brooklyn and Bronx residents hatch a plot to prove that aging is not a New York state of mind. This funny, heartwarming story reminds us that age is just a number, as long as we have friends to connect with.
