"Vote As You Please—But VOTE" At Election Tuesday
CC and Jaycees Sponsoring "Vote Early" Drive With Cars And Baby Sitters Available for Mothers
Colorado Transcript - October 30, 1952
In election season of 1952, the Chamber of Commerce and Jaycees (a service club, similar to the Lions, Kiwanis, etc.) were running an energetic campaign to Get Out the Vote.
The Chamber of Commerce were strongly encouraging people to vote early on election day, rather than waiting to close to poll-closing time. They were manning phones to provide information about polling places and to arrange baby sitting and transportation for those who needed it.
- Wives of the Jaycees will be available to go with cars to baby sit while mothers vote.
- All Golden automobile dealers are cooperating in this move, and there will be seven cars available to accommodate voters in need of transportation.
The following week's Transcript announced all election results, including the big one: that Dwight D. Eisenhower had won over Adlai Stevenson.
A month from now there may be some changes. But we'll bet one thing—the sun will still be coming up over South Table mountain and setting behind Lookout and the shorter days can be blamed on no political party.
