The July 28, 1932 Colorado Transcript announced the death of Golden's last Civil War veteran.
Andrew Anderson came to the U.S. from his native Sweden and joined the Union Army when hostilities commenced in 1861. He served in the Infantry for the duration of the war. After moving to Golden in 1869, he became active in Golden's T. H. Dodd post of the Grand Army of the Republic.

He was the foreman at the Golden paper mill on 9th Street for many years and lived in a home on the same street for half a century.

His funeral was conducted with military honors at Woods Mortuary, 11th and Washington. He was buried in the Golden Cemetery.
