Golden History: Tell 'em how to get here!

1939 Photo from the Golden History Museum collection. These signs were located in Pleasant View

The early years of the twentieth century were marked by a frantic level of roadbuilding. As cars and trucks replaced railroads and wagons, roads were needed absolutely everywhere, all over the country. One thing that was often overlooked was signage: directional signs weren't necessarily included in road-building projects.
The July 31, 1930 Colorado Transcript announced that new signs would be placed on "all roads leading to Golden, giving motorists clear directions as to how to reach this city."
The money to pay for the signs was raised by the Golden Businessmen's club with help from the Rocky Mountain Motorists. The businessmen saw it as a reasonable investment since, without directional signs on the roads, potential customers might never come to Golden.
