Golden History: Summer Tourist Season Begins

On April 27th, 1941, the Denver and Intermountain Railway began offering low-priced round-trip excursions between Denver and Golden. On Sundays and holidays, passengers could make that trip for only 25 cents. The D&IM had been offering those excursions for several years, and they had proven popular, bringing more than 10,000 visitors each summer.

Car after car of people with their cameras and lunches are unloaded at the Golden station. No attempt has been made by Golden people to entertain them–they all seem to know what they want to do. They spend the day in Golden’s parks, admiring Golden’s many beautiful homes, lawns, and flowers, visiting the School of Mines campus or hiking over the mountains and through the canons.
