10AM-5PM Golden Fine Arts Festival

A Golden icon for over three decades, Golden Fine Arts Festival is a prestigious juried art show located in the heart of historic downtown Golden, Colorado. This premier event traditionally draws over 30,000 visitors over 2 days to enjoy art, live entertainment, beer and wine gardens and food vendors.

The event, rich in community tradition and a well-established reputation, is limited to just over 100 artist booth spaces.  Artists are selected through a competitive jury process selected by art professionals. Traditionally, over half of participating Artists travel to Golden from outside of the state of Colorado.  Colorado is also home to many talented Artists who participate at the event each year. Cash prizes are awarded to 1st and 2nd place winners in nine categories, as well as Best of Show and Best of Colorado honors.

Produced by the Golden Chamber of Commerce, Golden Fine Arts Festival is a favorite of those who value an attentive and welcoming ‘home hospitality’ of Golden, Colorado for artists and patrons alike.

Pet Policy at Golden Fine Arts Festival - Dogs are highly discouraged at the Golden Fine Arts Festival!  Please leave your furry friends at home.  This is in an effort to protect the art on display and for your pet’s safety, protecting paws on hot asphalt.  The pet owner will be responsible for any damaged art.  Thank you for your understanding!

Golden History: Coors Pleasure Grounds

Picnic Grove on the Coors Brewery Grounds. Note the family home, surrounded by brewery buildings. – Click to enlarge

You’ve likely seen this picture before. Have you ever wondered why there are people frolicking around the brewery and boating in the ponds?

When the brewery was new, and for several decades afterwards, Coors had a beer garden, picnic grove, and mini-amusement park on the grounds. The area had trees, picnic tables, and swings. The ponds, which Coors built to make ice in the winter, were open to boating and even swimming. Coors sold beer and other refreshments and they rented out the grounds for group picnics.

The Golden community often celebrated the 4th of July on the Coors grounds, and the Colorado Transcript sometimes referred to the grove as “the Golden Park.”

The grove was slowly overtaken by factory growth – Click to enlarge

References to the “pleasure grounds” began to disappear around the turn of the century, and the grove became a private yard for the Coors family. Adolph Coors and his wife raised their family in the mansion on the grounds, and in later years, cottages were built as the next generation married and started families of their own.

The brewery grew at a tremendous pace after World War II – Click to enlarge

The brewery buildings eventually crowded out the old trees.

There has been a great deal of construction at the brewery over the years. The mansion still stands in the midst of the brewery, but it’s no longer occupied. – Click to enlarge
