Amelia's Big Idea

Ten-year-old Amelia Smart wants to build a dog park. Her pet Gadget needs a safe place to play, but her big idea to transform Townville will take a lot of work! Along the way, Amelia needs help from the Mayor, the Librarian, Mr. Delivery, and others. Kids (suggested ages 4-12) learn about teamwork, community, and civic life through catchy songs and interactive fun. Warning: You might take some big ideas home with you.

Golden History: Who would want to?

This photo appeared in the March 9, 1982 Golden Transcript. The caption asked, "Who would want to?" in reference to the No Parking sign. It went on to say:
Common sense probably is sufficient, but the No Parking sign makes it official at the corner of 14th Street and Washington Avenue. If the sign isn't enough of a deterrent for motorists in search of a parking place, then Gordon Ramstetter powering a crawler-loader more than likely is. Ramstetter Excavating is tearing up the sidewalk and grading the site for a soon-to-be office building or condominiums.

The building(s) in question are still there, at the southwest corner of 14th and Washington--the long-time home of Higher Grounds Coffee, Truly BoHotique, and several other businesses and residences. The D & N Motel behind Mr. Ramstetter has since been incorporated into the architect's office next door.
Weather
Overnight: Clear, with a low around 24. West wind around 5 mph.
Saturday: Sunny. High near 51, with temperatures falling to around 49 in the afternoon. South southeast wind 2 to 6 mph.
