Golden History: Golden Kiwanis Learn About the Future of Travel

The October 24, 1929 Colorado Transcript described the most recent meeting of the Golden Kiwanis club. The group, which included 50 members and their invited guests, met at the Berrimoor Hotel.

Their featured speaker was Captain Bruse Kistler of the 45th Air Squadron of the United States army. Kistler described the current status of aviation, which he said had been commercialized since 1923.

"Hundreds of thousands, and in some cases, millions of miles are flown by company planes without fatalities," he said. Kistler predicted that travel rates on planes would drop to compete with railroads within the next few months."

The Berrimoor Hotel opened in January of 1925 and was considered a vital element in revitalizing the pioneer-era downtown. It still operates today, as the Table Mountain Inn.

By Corinne Westeman
Golden Transcript

The Colorado School of Mines volleyball team is on a 33-set and 11-match win streak, but the players and coaches don’t talk about it.

It’s not because they’re superstitious — or even a little stitious. They’re just focused on what’s in front of them, and taking things one match and one set at a time, Coach Jamie Magalei explained... Read more...
