“Suspicious” Character Is Not at All Suspicious
A man sat on the curb at 19th and Ford Street last Thursday morning just as daylight was breaking. A mountain parks patrolman passed the man, went some distance, came back, took a look at him and then went on his way. Pretty soon the night marshal came up the street, summoned it is said by someone who said that a suspicious looking individual was loitering in the vicinity. He took a look at the man and they exchanged salutations, and then the marshal went on his way. Soon a big truck thundered up the street, loaded with peas from the Guy Hill district and the suspicious looking man climbed up with the driver and away they went. You can see him most every day driving a white horse, selling fresh vegetables which he buys every morning at the market in Denver, and entertaining the children. His name is Fred Beamer, and he has as many friends as any man in Golden.

Fred Beamer

I asked Mike Leidich about his great-grandfather, Fred Beamer. He provided this photo of Fred on his vegetable wagon. He also noted that Fred was a ventriloquist who entertained children by making his horse appear to talk.
