Wildfires

There are three wildfires burning along the front range, which are contributing to poorer air quality here in Golden.

The newest and closest of the three is about 17 miles south of Golden, near the Ken Caryl exit from C-470. The Jefferson County Sheriff is providing regular updates on their website.

NOTE: We can reduce our chances to falling victim to similar wildfires by reducing the fuel on our own property. Golden is lucky to have a nearby slash collection facility.

5-7:30PM Teen Night @ The Golden Community Center

Golden Teen Nights is a program designed and operated by a group of Golden High School students with Golden Rotarians serving as helpers/advisors.   Teen Nights is designed to give students an opportunity to interact with their peers in a setting outside of school.  It is held the first Thursday of each month (excluding June and July), 5:00 to 7:30 pm at the Golden Community Center.  Attractions include board games, swimming, pool, soft drinks, pizza, snacks, and just hanging out. Other organizations are often invited to attend and make presentations to the teens. The program is funded by a Thriving Community grant from the City of Golden.

Golden History: Lucky Miner

This ad for the Lucky Miner Restaurant appeared in the August 1, 1979 Golden Transcript. The restaurant was part of the Old Miners Inn, which was located on the south side of Clear Creek, west of Highway 6. Other advertisements of that era described the motel/restaurant as having "the most breathtaking view in Golden overlooking fresh streams & the Rockies."

The Old Miners Inn opened in 1969, with 40 units, and operated for about 11 years. In 1980, the owner asked the City to rezone the property from commercial to residential. The motel rooms were remodeled into 20 2-story condos, each one consisting of a first-floor and second-floor room, connected by an interior spiral staircase. Each was also given a "kitchenette."

The Planning Commission discussed this property last week. The current owners of the land south of the condos were asking for a zoning change.
