Golden Transcript - July 25, 1975

The July 25, 1973 Golden Transcript was full of details for Buffalo Bill Days. At that time, many local organizations were involved, and they all hosted their own events.

This was an earlier carnival (1940) - Golden History Museum collection
  • The Jaycees hosted a carnival.
  • The Golden Thespians performed a melodrama.
  • The Methodist church hosted a Western Supper, with help from the Golden Business and Professional Women.
  • The Jaycees organized a children's pet parade.
  • There were street dances on Friday night. Glen Owen and the Ranch Hands provided dance music in the 1200 block of Washington Avenue, while the Golden Nuggets held a square dance in the 1100 block.
  • Saturday morning kicked off with a trail ride up Lookout Mountain, to Buffalo Bill's gravesite.
This Transcript photo shows the Golden Fire Department doing a hose cart race in Idaho Springs
  • The Golden Fire Department held a hose cart race through downtown.
  • The Jaycees also organized a cake decorating contest.
  • The big Buffalo Bill Days Grand Parade was held on Saturday Afternoon.
Party at the Astor House - Golden History Museum collection
  • After that, the newly-saved Astor House was dedicated, with help from our local Congressmen.
  • The Energy Crisis was raging at that time, so the Golden Optimists were holding a raffle for 300 gallons of gasoline.

The time has come again--check www.goldenbuffalobilldays.com to see the schedule of this weekend's events!

Thanks to the Golden History Museum for providing the online cache of historic Transcripts, and to the Golden Transcript for documenting our history since 1866!
