- Send comments on any of the following topics to PublicComment@cityofgolden.net BEFORE 3PM
- Provide in-person comment (limited to 3 minutes) during the business meeting, at 6:30.
5PM Study Session
- Managed Parking at Water and Jackson Streets
Parking is in high demand in the area by Parfet Park, the Golden Mill, and the future Clayworks development. Clayworks has been granted a transportation demand management plan, which allows them to provide less on-site parking than our codes would normally require. In response (and in anticipation), the residents and businesses in that area are requesting a managed parking system, which would provide tenants with parking permits. - Fire Department Data Analytics
In 2023, Golden voters approved a tax increase to fund more staff for the Fire Department. The Fire Chief will report on the impacts of that increased funding.
6:30PM Business Meeting

Resolutions
- Approving a new Comprehensive Plan
Council will approve a new version of the Comprehensive Plan ("the Comp Plan"). The Comp Plan is treated by staff and council as the expressed will of the people and is used as the basis for policy decisions.
The 2011 Comp Plan was written based on an extensive public input process. It included several goals which have been largely dropped or degraded in this version, such as "Safe, clean and quiet neighborhoods."
In 2017, the Plan was changed to say that 45% of Golden's housing should be affordable to low, moderate, and median income households.
This 2026 version emphasizes increasing density and fitting more people in the City's limited space. It states that most new development will be multi-family housing rather than single family homes. It emphasizes use of transportation demand management plans as a way to allocate less land to parking. It focuses on adding affordable housing developments.
This new Comp Plan also includes a new section on "Regional Partnerships." This is primarily focused on the School of Mines, which has shown dramatic growth over the past few years. This is always a matter of concern to the City, since they have little or no control over what and where the School decides to build. This section mentions the City's desire to have more input into future campus expansion plans. - Amending Council Rules
The resolution clarifies several aspects concerning Council participation on City and regional boards. - Establishment enforcement framework and water service surcharge for violations of outdoor water use restrictions.
Ordinance
- First reading of water use restrictions with final reading and public hearing scheduled for April 28th.

Golden History: Youthful Adventures of 1966

Colorado Transcript - April 14, 1966

The April 14, 1966 Colorado Transcript was full of youthful adventures.
Story 1 – Up from the Deep
Two teenagers decided to explore a deep pit near the junction of routes 6 and 93. They had taken a rope with them but found they couldn’t climb the 100 feet out of the nearly vertical shaft. Fortunately, they had friends still on the surface, who went for help. The Golden police and fire departments rescued them. According to the article, the boys were in the pit from 11:30AM until 2:30 the following morning.
Story 2 – Golden Youths Find Body on Lookout Mountain
“Leonard I. Baker, age 12, of Frederick, Colo., and Lawrence D. Wyatt, age 13, of Golden discovered the body about a quarter mile down the mountain from Buffalo Bill’s grave, when they were hiking in the area.” The Jefferson County Coroner identified the body as Donald Young, of Denver. The article doesn’t provide the man’s age, but a card in his wallet said he served in the Navy from 1950-1951.
Story 3 – Golden’s ‘Flyer Saucer’ Turns Into Student Hoax
The previous Sunday, several Golden residents had spotted a red, glowing object over Lookout Mountain. It appeared again on Monday night, so two Golden policemen hiked up the hill and found some School of Mines students creating the UFOs by attaching lighted flares to helium-filled balloons. They loosed the balloons and let them float over Golden.
Apparently, they weren’t very fire conscious.
