5:30-7PM Clear Creek Trail (formerly Peaks-to-Plains Trail) Downtown Golden Alternatives @ Golden Community Center

The Clear Creek Trail grows more popular (and more heavily trafficked) every year. For the past few years, the City has been looking for ways to re-route the faster-moving bike traffic away from pedestrians in the downtown area (approximately Hwy 58 to Ford Street).

They were considering a "bike bypass" paralleling the Church Ditch (approximately 7th Street).
They have also discussed linking the sidewalks along the Creek between Washington and the new City Hall. They have been discussing building an underpass under Ford Street, since that crossing tends to be dangerous for pedestrians.
Instead of either of these alternatives, tonight's open house will describe a plan to widen the sidewalk on the south side of the Creek. This is causing dismay to some of the residents of the senior housing apartments and Millstone Condominiums. They are not anxious to have more, higher-speed traffic in front of their residences.
This meeting is your chance to discuss this plan with city staff. More information

5:30-7PM Lions Park Playground Replacement Community Open House @ Golden Community Center

Lions Park playground is getting an upgrade! After multiple community engagement touchpoints in 2025, the City has prepared three design concepts for the new playground, and we want your feedback.
Please join us at one of our in-person pop-up events or the community meeting to review the design concepts, learn more about the project, and provide your input.
Can't make the in-person engagements? Review concepts and provide your feedback via the online survey on the project page on the Guiding Golden website. The online survey will be open from April 24-May 11. Learn more on Guiding Golden.

6:30-8PM CMC Mountain Voices - Notions of Grace // Jason Kolaczkowski @ Colorado Mountain Club

If you were to leave the story of your life behind for those you love the most, what would you say? What lessons would you learn in the telling?
On a train ride towards a downtown job, Jason Kolaczkowski was staring at a screen, his computer folded open in his lap while the cursor blinked at him, pleading for him to type just a few honest words. He was still shaken to his core. He had recently returned from leading an attempt at an unclimbed peak in the Himalaya, a climb that was supposed to be to be his magnum opus - the ultimate object lesson for his young, twin sons on the power and necessity of dreams, even when dreamt in the face of the uncertainty and fear and heartbreak of his recent leukemia diagnosis. But it turns out that is not what the climb had delivered. It brought more questions than answers.
A life of youthful possibility and the inevitable traumas and triumphs of an imperfect reality, a life balancing climbing and responsibilities, a life of personal goals and intertwined relationships was too complicated to be summed up so neatly. What did he want to tell his sons, now too young to understand but who someday would not be? What did he want to tell his wife, his brother, his parents, and his friends? Register

Golden History: Mother's Day, 1949

In 1949, the Golden Theater offered a special Mother's Day Screening of Ma and Pa Kettle. The first 200 mothers through the door would be given a free carnation. They were also planning to give special floral prizes for the oldest and youngest mothers.

For mothers who preferred sugar to entertainment, devoted children could buy a box of candy from Foss Drug.

Or for mothers who believed that the best gift was "Reservations!" (at a restaurant), Sunday dinner at the Holland House would be the perfect way to celebrate the day.
