2 Classes Tomorrow Morning

There are two classes scheduled tomorrow (Wednesday) morning. They're early enough that I thought I'd mention them now, so you have time to register.
9AM-5PM Sew a Crossbody Bag @ Front Porch
Join one or all of the Art Exploration series to learn a new medium in a low stress, no judgement environment. Art Exploration classes are taught by Golden Community Center staff, Front Porch members, guest artists from local museums, or working artists from the Foothills Arts Center in Golden. All supplies are included in the class fee.
Bring your own sewing machine and join us for a fun class with step-by-step instructions on how to make this modern bum bag/crossbody belt bag. Designed for the confident beginner, it is both practical and on trend. This makes a great project to learn new skills and create a useful hand-free accessory. Perfect for gift giving! Register

Golden Community Center

9:30AM-2PM Doodle 2 Embroidery
Discover the joy of "doodling" with needle and thread! In this creative, hands-on class, you'll explore a variety of simple hand embroidery stitches and learn how to combine them to create playful, free-flowing designs directly on fabric. There are no patterns to follow and no pressure for perfection—just the freedom to experiment with line, texture, and color as you stitch. This class meets twice: Oct 7 and 21. Register

Golden History: The Buffalo Herd

Buffaloes, pastured and fattened In Jefferson county, are to go on the eastern market at novelty prices, according to Walter B. Lowery, manager of parks and improvements for the city of Denver. Thirty hulls and cows from the herd at Genesee park have been segregated from the 33 other buffaloes of the herd and are being especially fed for market.
Colorado Transcript - October 6, 1932
The buffalo herd just west of Golden (map) was established in 1914, soon after the Denver Mountain Parks system was created. At that point, the animals were near extinction, but several buffalo were brought down from Yellowstone. They thrived in their new Colorado home, and soon, Denver Mountain Parks began culling the herd, putting several animals up for auction each year.
In 2021, the City of Denver began donating the culled buffalo to Indigenous tribes, rather than auctioning them. Learn more about the history of the herd.
