9-11AM DeLong Park Habitat Helpers @ DeLong Park
Golden Parks and Recreation is using DeLong Park as a pilot project for the City’s first organic park location. This means that they will be using only natural, organic products for all plants and grasses. No synthetic chemicals will be used in our maintenance practices. The DeLong Park Weed Busters are always happy to bring in new members, and training on weed identification is provided! More information.

10-10:45AM Storybook Tour @ Colorado Railroad Museum
The first Tuesday of every month, join us for the Storybook Tour! Intended for young children and their parents, the tour starts at 10:00 a.m. and lasts approximately 45 minutes. Cost is $3 per person, plus Museum admission.
This one-of-a-kind tour takes you on a trip throughout the Museum’s railyard, inspired by some of the best of children’s literature—railroad themed, of course! The Little Engine That Could, the Little Red Caboose and of course, Donald Crews’ Freight Train provide the suitable inspiration for this adventure at the Colorado Railroad Museum.

Join CPW partner & Division of Wildlife Manager Philip Sorensen and the City Community Services team for a presentation and Q&A on bear awareness and safety. Golden is one of many communities that have seen increased bear activity due to drought conditions in the high country. In response, the Colorado state legislature passed HB26-1342: "Negligently Luring Bears." Come learn about how to stay safe around bears in our community, deterrents and permitted hazing techniques, as well as what HB26-1342 means for you. More information

Government-issued currency was always in short supply on the frontier. Golden’s early merchants were accustomed to accepting gold as payment and reportedly kept small scales on hand to weigh it. They also accepted agricultural commodities in trade for other goods.
157 Years Ago
The September 1, 1869 Colorado Transcript includes several examples of “trade.” The Pacific Insurance Company accepted “Currency or Gold.” Bell’s Stone-Ware Pottery exchanged pottery for “Ranch Produce.” Clark & Doolittle took either “Greenbacks or Country Produce.”
Even the Transcript accepted produce in exchange for the news:
We trust our subscribers in the country who are in arears, will not forget to set aside grain enough to liquidate our claim when they do their threshing. We shall be glad to take wheat or oats at market prices for your indebtedness or for new subscription. To those who call upon us we will furnish sacks for the purpose.
