Golden History: Our Long Tradition—Reborn!

In the summer of 1915, the Golden Band raised funds to build this bandstand, which was located at the intersection of 13th and Washington, near the Tramway depot. – enlarge

Brass band music was very popular with soldiers during the Civil War, and became an essential element of American life in the years following the war. Golden had its own local band as early as 1875, and for many decades brass band music was a vital part of any community gatherings—particularly popular at 4th of July celebrations.

In addition to the Golden Band, many local organizations had small groups of their own.

The third generation of Coors boys spent their early years in Golden schools, and three of them appear in this photo from the Golden History Museum Collection. The back identifies the boys as follows: "Back Row - Joe Coors [Joseph Coors, Sr.], Hardy [Charles Harding], Walter Eldredge, John Kerr, Adolph Coors [Adolph Coors III]. Front Row - Dub, [Adelbert "Dub" Warren], Bill Coors [William K. Coors], Bill Warren, Bill Parfet [William George Parfet], Harris Hamlin."
