Peaks to Plains Trail - Photo by Joyce Davell

This long-running walk group has changed meeting locations. As always, everyone is warmly welcome to join them.

New Meet-Up Location: Meet at the Gateway Trailhead located on highway 6 just west of the intersection with highway 93.

Golden Walks is an informal group that walks along the Peaks to Plains trail adjacent to Clear Creek. People walk the distance they want and at their own pace, with the focus on connecting to others and the outdoors. This event occurs weather permitting and may be canceled for inclement weather, especially if the ground is icy.

A Comprehensive Plan is a policy document that guides long-term decisions for the City, covering land-use decisions like rezoning, infrastructure investments, and programming choices. It lays the foundation for future zoning codes, which then turn the plan into reality.

There will be additional opportunities in November and December, stay tuned for details! Learn more about the Comprehensive Plan on the Guiding Golden page.

Xcel Power Outage Map

If you were driving through downtown yesterday, you probably experienced some exciting times at the intersections. The stoplights were all out, due to an Xcel power outage.

Xcel has a map showing where they have power outages and whether there's a crew onsite, working on it. Here's the address:

Golden History: Touring the Arms Plant

Denver Ordnance Plant/Remington Small Arms Plant – Denver Public Library Western History Collection – enlarge

After more than a decade of economic Depression, Golden’s citizens were very interested in the new Remington small arms plant, located just 10 minutes from Golden. It was expected to provide thousands of well-paid jobs.

The October 23, 1941 Colorado Transcript announced that the new plant would be open for tours on the coming Saturday. It was, of course, a highly secure facility. Visitors would be required to arrive in cars and stay in them.

Cars will not be permitted to stop within the reservation nor can their occupants alight, but a tour of the grounds may be made and all of the 150 buildings can be seen along the route…. The general public will not be allowed inside any of the production buildings, but will be given a comprehensive view of the exterior of the many buildings making up the vast plant. The tour inside the grounds will be three miles in length.

After World War II, the plant was repurposed to serve as the Denver Federal Center. Many Golden residents still work there!
