Golden History: Fighting Fire with Fire

The October 9, 1958 Colorado Transcript describes the pre-Clean Air Act approach to Fire Prevention Week. Residents of Jefferson County were invited to bring all burnable debris to a location at W. 6th Avenue and Kipling. There would be a big community bonfire on Friday night, October 10th, “after the football games.”
These Fire Prevention Bonfires took place in 1957, 1958, and 1959. Oddly enough, they were sponsored by the Insurance Advisory group of Jefferson County School District R1.
Many thanks to an anonymous donor for sponsoring Golden History Moments for the month of October.
